Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I have never been massaged and do not know what
to expect.
Answer: With any new experience there are many
questions about what to expect during your first massage session. The
below section address typical concerns a first timer may have.
Discuss any concerns with your therapist, they are trained to make the
experience as comfortable and beneficial as possible in a very
professional manner.
Dress: You will undress privately to your level of comfort and
position yourself under a sheet called a drape. You may choose to be
totally or partially clothed under the drape. Many people leave
their underwear on during the massage. You will be draped at all
times during the massage session. As each part of the body is
massaged it is uncovered then re-draped. At no time during the
massage are genitals or women's breasts exposed. Hair or make-up may
become disturbed during face and scalp massage but the therapist will
modify the technique if this is a concern.
Pain: Depending on the reason for the massage, there will be
little or no pain during the massage. If muscles are tense or sore
they may hurt a little when massaged. The therapist will adjust the
level of therapy based on your pain tolerance. Sometimes there is
delayed soreness. To minimize this drink plenty of water after the
session to flush out the waste products released during the massage.
Massage Oil: Massage oil is used to make the techniques
more comfortable and effective. All About You Massage uses natural
(no mineral or animal products) cold pressed oils which are absorbed and
are beneficial to your skin. Inform the therapist of any allergies,
there is a selection of oil or creams that can be used.
Music and Talking: Soothing music and miniature waterfalls
are commonly used for relaxation. Ask the therapist to change the
music or turn it off if you wish. Casual talking is optional, some
prefer silence. Be sure to inform the therapist of anything causing
discomfort.
Health Information: Like any medical procedure, you are required
to provide health information prior to the massage. This
information is helpful in tailoring the treatment plan to your specific
needs. This is recorded on a health intake form and kept in your
personal file. National HIPPA policies are followed and this
information is kept strictly confidential.

Question: There are many benefits with massage, but are
there any conditions for which massage massage should not be performed?
Answer: Yes, massage will not
benefit you if you're sick. Please call the massage therapist if
there are any questions. Reschedule your appointment if not feeling
well. Examples of contraindications to massage or when a
therapist will not massage:
1. When client is feeling ill: flu,
fever etc.
2. In areas of infections, recent
surgery or fractures.
3. In abdomen during 1st trimester
